Mass of Reparation behind closed doors

On Saturday 14 November 2020 the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe welcomed the Latin Mass Society for the third year running to celebrate a Mass of Reparation for Abortion.  Sadly, this time, because this date fell during the lockdown, it was not possible to have a congregation and the Mass was said behind closed doors.  This was a Solemn High Mass with three priests:  Fr Seth Phipps FSSP was the celebrant, Fr Gabriel Diaz the Deacon and Fr Michael Cullinan the Subdeacon.  They wore beautiful gold vestments which are part of the collection at the Church of Christ the King, the home of the Bedford Latin Mass.

Fr Phipps gave an inspiring homily, likening the human sacrifices of the Aztecs at the time of the appearance of Our Lady to St Juan Diego to the sacrifice these days of abortion and stating that the Mass is the very best prayer of reparation that we can make for this, but also how we must be united with this saving action of Christ.  And for this, the intention of the Holy Mass needs to ‘spill over’ – so to speak – into our lives, in the form of penance and self-denial.  In this way, we become part of the solution, part of the reparation for sin; and we return in our own bodies the glory and honour due to Almighty God.

The liturgy ran very smoothly with an expert team of servers under Columba Shaw acting as MC.  Matthew Schellhorn, Director of Music for the Latin Mass Society, played and sang.  Matthew also sings the Latin Mass at Christ the King, Bedford one Sunday a month at 12.30 pm. There is also a Latin Mass every Sunday at 8.30 am.  Please see for details.
