The Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe welcomed the Latin Mass Society for a Mass of Reparation for Abortion on Saturday 23 November. One hundred and ten people had made their way to Bedford, a significant increase on last year. Some of whom had travelled from London and further afield; some were attending a Latin Mass for the first time, and commented on its beauty and reverence. This was a Solemn High Mass with three priests: Fr Patrick O’Donohue FSSP was the celebrant, Fr Gabriel Diaz the Deacon and Brother Albert Robertson the Subdeacon. They wore beautiful white vestments loaned by the Latin Mass Society.
Fr O’Donohue gave an inspiring homily on Life: he spoke of the abortion and infanticide practices of the Romans (nothing is new under the sun!), the views of the Church Fathers down the ages about the sanctity of life, and challenged us to search our consciences and become more involved. He said that although we may never know in this life how the witness of each of us may have helped someone, we may find out in heaven!
The liturgy ran very smoothly with an expert team of servers and singers. Many of those attending came forward at the end of Mass to venerate the Relic Image, and were assisted as always by the Knights of St Columba. An opportunity to socialise afterwards over refreshments was enjoyed by all.
