A report from our pilgrimage partners, the Knights of St Columba, of their centenary celebrations at The Church of the Holy Child & St Joseph, Bedford (home to the Shrine of the Relic Image of Our Lady of Guadalupe):
On Saturday 15th June 2019, in the Centenary year of the Order of the Knights of St Columba, Brothers from our local Council 338 and Brothers from across our Province 38 gathered with family from Ireland and Southampton and friends from all the families in Bedford who have had Knights in our Council over the years from its foundation, along with a large congregation at a special Saturday morning Mass, which included a presentation of fifty-year service medals and a special letter from the Supreme Knight Brother Bertie Grogan to Brothers Jim and Michael Kinsella, presented by our Provincial Grand Knight Brother Pat Martin.
Canon Seamus was joined by our Provincial Chaplain Father Chris Perry as concelebrant. Father Chris gave a very moving homily on the centenary and the work of the Knights.
After Mass, everyone met in the Guild Room for refreshments and a chance to talk and reminisce, and for the cutting of the anniversary cake.
Brothers Jim and Michael have, over the fifty years, been a shining example of the three great principles of the order: Unity, Charity and Fraternity.
Our thanks to Canon Seamus and Father Chris and all who made this a most memorable day.
