On Saturday 26th August 2017, for the fifth year, the Miraculous Relic Image visited the National Shrine of Our Lady in Walsingham, Norfolk for the biggest young Catholic Summer Festival, themed this year under the title “Inheritance”.
The event is a 5-day camping festival run by young people for young people, and is held in the fields around the National Shrine of Our Lady. Over 1,200 young people from all over the country gathered for worship, praise, and fun.
The team from Youth 2000 welcomed Guardians Andrew and Michael to the site, where they met new faces and saw old friends from the 2017 National Pilgrimage Tour of the Miraculous Relic Image of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
The “youth” desire for understanding and interest in Our Lady of Guadalupe as “Protectress of the unborn” makes these visits very special.
Our Lady of Guadalupe is Patron of the Youth 2000 movement, and also of the Franciscan Friars and Nuns of the Renewal who have strong links to Youth 2000.
The Miraculous Relic Image was there as a centrepiece for devotion and for a workshop, “Our Lady of Guadalupe, Mother of Life”.
Father Gabriel Kyte, the Superior of the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal based at St. Patrick’s Mission in Bradford, supported Father Tomas and Guardian Andrew in delivering the workshops.
Father Gabriel led the workshop with the story of the Guadalupe apparitions and Our Lady’s place under her title as Protectress of the Unborn and Patroness of the ProLife movement. Father Tomas described the Miraculous wonders of Our Lady’s Image and the Scientific discoveries of the research undertaken to confirm this Miraculous nature. Guardian Andrew explained the work of the Guardians in the UK and their mission, which had developed through the National Pilgrimage Tour.
The workshops were well attended and overran due to the number of youth pilgrims wishing to hear the Story and venerate the Miraculous Relic Image.
The day was also a chance to meet and renew friendships with members of the Travelling Community, who were at the Festival with their young people; many of them had also attended the recent Pilgrimage Visit to Appleby Fair in Cumbria.
Guardians Andrew and Michael led and assisted with a spontaneous prayer service, which formed part of the Travelling Community’s time with Our Lady of Guadalupe. Andrew, on behalf of the Guardians, thanked Father Gabriel for his spiritual direction and the strength of his message.
