Pilgrimage Visit to Appleby Fair Confirmed

The Pilgrimage Visit to Appleby Fair has been confirmed for Sunday, 11th June 2017.

After many requests from members of the Gypsy and Traveller communities, whom we have met on previous National Pilgrimage Tours, and following discussions with Father Philip Connor from the Lancaster Diocese, who is Chaplin to the 2017 Appleby Fair, senior members of the travelling community and Father Dan Mason, National Chaplin for Travellers, we are delighted to confirm that the Miraculous Relic Image of Our Lady of Guadalupe will journey the 448 mile roundtrip to Appleby Fair, for the day, on Sunday 11th June 2017, arriving to be present at the Masses and other religious events taking place. There will hopefully be opportunities for veneration.

The Miraculous Relic Image will be sited in an area adjacent to the Altar area at the outside Mass venue.

The Guardians, together with the Miraculous Relic Image of Our Lady of Guadalupe, have been invited to attend on three previous occasions but this is the first time we have been able to accept. Once the Guardians can analyse the actual logistics, financial implications, outcomes and lessons of this year’s visit, we may be able to consider the possibility of a longer pilgrimage visit in the coming years.
